South Korea's SK Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent packet optical transport solution to upgrade its nationwide wireless data network. The project is currently being deployed.
The new backhaul network will play a significant role in supporting the customer's high capacity traffic as well as offering of QoS-based services. In addition, it will support its WCDMA traffic and lay a solid foundation for SK Telecom's future LTE-based services.
"With our innovation leadership in optical transport and wireless network solutions, we are committed to support our Korean customers smooth evolution to the LTE era," said Rajeev Singh-Molares, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Asia-Pacific. "Leveraging our High Leverage Network architecture, we will ensure that service providers can build and equip a converged infrastructure that enables scalable and efficient traffic transmission and offering of value-added services."
